Teacher: Amy Shipman Supplies Needed: - Provided School Year Supply Fee: $30 paid directly to Tutor Magic Schoolbus Science Club Days Offered: Monday Ages Offered: 3rd - 5th Grade Class Description: Bjj (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu)takes pleasure in being regarded as the “gentle art,” enabling a smaller and weaker person to defend himself against a larger opponent by using leverage and submissions (chokes and locks). The form of training that is offered will be unique in that all of the skills are entirely defensive and do not include any strikes. Students will learn to protect themselves if they are assaulted, as well as how to defuse the danger and regain control. They will develop problem solving skills and prepare to face many problems and obstacles in everyday life, such as dealing with a bully. As a result, it will instill in your child the character traits that will lead to success in many aspects of life. Jiu Jitsu employs concepts such as reaction, leverage, and base. Students learn to utilize an opponent’s strength to their advantage rather than struggling against it. It promotes a greater sense of body awareness and coordination, which leads to increased confidence and inner discipline. Kids not only learn self defense effectively, but they also improve their kinesthetic abilities, allowing them to thrive in any other sport in which they participate. The bulk of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class time is spent working with partners and practicing moves. This constant close contact enables practitioners to instill the natural phenomenon of body action and reaction to leverage and balance in an interactive manner, rather than individual repetitive moves in theoretical situations. Kids learn to read and anticipate their opponents’ moves, and then respond accordingly. They are continuously exposed to the dynamic, and it gets hard wired into their body’s memory. Brazilian jiu-jitsu, on the other hand, offers an added benefit: mental toughness. Bjj is a physical chess game in which you are always planning your next move in response to your opponent. Physical contact with other people, a sense of belongingness, goal setting and accomplishment, and confidence gained from learning and performing new skills all contribute to the development of mental toughness. Aspire Academy Fees Academy Fees All curriculum choices can be seen in the class descriptions for each class. Book rental fees are charged for most books that Aspire will purchase and reuse. This will save families a considerable amount on curriculum costs and allow Aspire to invest in a solid curriculum for the Academy Program. Much research went into this, decisions were based on: ☑️ The overall cost for co-op and parents ☑️ Reviews on the curriculum from many different sources ☑️ OK state standards ☑️ Christian worldview curriculum choices of different private and/or college prep programs ☑️ Avg testing scores (especially HS) resulting from programs using this curriculum ☑️ Our model. Teaching 1-2 days and doing work (having enough work) the other 3-4 days each week... it’s unique! We hope you will find them adequate and competitive with other programs! Curriculum Standards Curriculum Payment Arrangement In addition to the $75 Family Membership & Registration Fee, a non-refundable down payment of 5% of your total Aspire bill (not including discounts) is required at enrollment to hold your students place in a class with the remaining balance split into 10 monthly payments from July 1 - April 1. If you enroll after July 1, you are required to make all missed payments up to the enrollment date to be current on our payment plan. Families who have been late in making 2 or more payments will not be allowed to participate in our payment plan option, and will be required to pay in full each semester prior to beginning classes. Families who are late 2 or more payments after beginning classes will be removed from the payment plan and full tuition for the will be required in order to continue the semester. Families who have an outstanding balance with Aspire will not have a guaranteed space at a campus or in a class until all balances are in good standing. Families can pay in full or make additional payments at any time, and re-calculate their balance from there for the remaining payments. Families must remain up-to-date on their monthly payments or their students will not be allowed to attend classes the following month until the owed balance is paid. As a volunteer-run, non-profit, homeschool program, the funds that Aspire collects go directly to pay teachers, facility fees and other expenses for our large programs.
