Class Description:

Playful Pioneers is an explorative literature and projects based class, built around The Little House on the Prairie series. Throughout this class, we will cover: Bible, reading, discussion, narration, science, history, map work, art, poetry, and practical life skills, which will all flow from chapters that we read in these beloved books. Each week will involve making either a coordinating craft or a selection from The Playful Pioneers cookbook. Lots of fun will be had, while we focus on hands-on learning.

Class Description:

This is a beginner ukulele class for 5th and younger. We will learn basic chords and rhythm patterns. We then move on to playing songs and have fun learning about musical concepts that apply to all musical instruments. Most of the school year will be dedicated to playing sing-along songs and having fun enjoying the music they are making. This class was created to possibly making an easy transition to the guitar class.

Class Description:

This hands-on class will introduce your little learner to Paleontology and earth science. Some of the topics we will cover and learn more about are fossils, dinosaurs, extinct animals, earthquakes, volcanoes, rocks, and so much more. If your little learner loves the dirt and rocks, they will love this class!

Class Description:

This hands-on class will start with an introduction to Paleontology and then dig deeper into fossils, dinosaurs. and Archeology. We will learn about the giant dinosaurs that roamed the earth, as well as the dinosaurs of the sky and sea. We will also learn which dinosaurs were carnivores (meat eaters) and which were herbivores (plant eaters). When exploring fossils, we learn the different places they are found and the different materials in which they are found. Digging for fossils will lead us into learning about Archeology, excavation and other artifacts that can be found. If you like to get your hands dirty, become a Paleontologist with us!

Class Description:

Learn how God uses ordinary people in extraordinary ways – women who were once girls like you! Together, we will read the stories of Amy Carmichael, Corrie Ten Boom, Joni Eareckson,

and many others. Each book contains the stories of ten girls who grew up to be used by God in amazing ways. You will not only be amazed at the bravery, cleverness, and faith of these girls,

but you will be inspired to look to God as you wonder, “How will He work through me?”

The books contain ten easy-to-read chapters of equal length. Each character’s chapter begins with an incident or memory from their childhood, reminding you that people who grow up to do

amazing things were once young people just like you.

Each chapter has a fact file, a keynote, a think spot, and a prayer to help you think through and apply what you’ve learned. The books also conclude with a quiz to see how much you remember.

We will integrate historical information, maps, YouTube™ videos, and word studies to better understand the context for each person’s lived story of faith.

Class Description:

This class is for students who have completed the ukulele class in the previous school year. Building on the basic skills we learned in ukulele, we will learn chords and chord progressions that lead to playing full songs. The primary goal of this class is to teach each student proper playing through proper practice and the joy of music by reaching smaller goals (wins) and ultimately bigger goals (playing a full song).

Lego Simple Machines: Build, Explore, Learn

Class Description:

Come join Mrs Shipman, Mrs Frizzle and the whole magic school bus classroom while we jump into STEM projects of every subject. We’ll complete experiments from the MSB Science kits with topics like: Human body, Germs, Volcanoes, Flight, Rainbows, Weather, Water Cycle, Acids & Bases, Insects & Other Creatures, Magnets. The kits were designed for kids K-4. We’ll learn the scientific process, how to keep a lab notebook (for littles, this looks like drawing pictures of what they see), what is and how to form, say and evaluate a “hypothesis” etc. All hands on and all so much FUN! On my homework scale of 0=none, ever and 10=college chemistry, this class is ½-1, but it will never be required.

Magic Schoolbus Science Club

Class Description:

Bjj (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu)takes pleasure in being regarded as the “gentle art,” enabling a smaller and weaker person to defend himself against a larger opponent by using leverage and submissions (chokes and locks).

The form of training that is offered will be unique in that all of the skills are entirely defensive and do not include any strikes. Students will learn to protect themselves if they are assaulted, as well as how to defuse the danger and regain control. They will develop problem solving skills and prepare to face many problems and obstacles in everyday life, such as dealing with a bully. As a result, it will instill in your child the character traits that will lead to success in many aspects of life.
Jiu Jitsu employs concepts such as reaction, leverage, and base. Students learn to utilize an opponent’s strength to their advantage rather than struggling against it.
It promotes a greater sense of body awareness and coordination, which leads to increased confidence and inner discipline. Kids not only learn self defense effectively, but they also improve their kinesthetic abilities, allowing them to thrive in any other sport in which they participate.
The bulk of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class time is spent working with partners and practicing moves. This constant close contact enables practitioners to instill the natural phenomenon of body action and reaction to leverage and balance in an interactive manner, rather than individual repetitive moves in theoretical situations. Kids learn to read and anticipate their opponents’ moves, and then respond accordingly. They are continuously exposed to the dynamic, and it gets hard wired into their body’s memory.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu, on the other hand, offers an added benefit: mental toughness. Bjj is a physical chess game in which you are always planning your next move in response to your opponent. Physical contact with other people, a sense of belongingness, goal setting and accomplishment, and confidence gained from learning and performing new skills all contribute to the development of mental toughness.

Class Description:

A general survey of many styles of martial arts. No prior experience necessary. We will cover many styles such as Tae Kwon Do, Arnis/ Kombaton, Karate, Tai Chi Gung, and some of the many weapons associated with these arts. Students will learn movements from these styles, kicking, punching, evading, breathwork, and focus.

Class Description:

In this engaging, hands-on class, we’ll bring history to life through the stories of the American Girl characters. Each week, students will dive into ahistorical time period by reading selected book chapters, exploring important facts and timelines, and participating in themed crafts, cooking projects, art projects and creative play. We’ll learn about American history in a way that’s meaningful and memorable—connecting literature, art, culture, and fun. This class is a wonderful mix of education, imagination, and friendship that makes learning feel like play.

Detective Science / Forensics

Class Description:

Welcome to the elementary Drama Class, where imagination takes center stage! This course is designed for aspiring actors of all skill levels who dream of bringing timeless stories to life. Over the school year, we will embark on a theatrical journey, working on one large play performed at the end of April or one short play each semester performed at the Aspire Showcase (one in December and one in April). What play we perform will depend on class size and student interest. We usually stick to classics such as “The Wizard of Oz,” “Peter Pan,” or “Treasure Island," etc. What You Will Learn: Acting Techniques: Discover the fundamentals of acting, including voice projection, emotional expression, and character development. Stagecraft: Gain hands-on experience with stage design, props, and costumes to create a magical setting for our performances. Teamwork: Learn the importance of collaboration as you work alongside your peers to produce a cohesive and captivating production. Performance Preparation: Each student will have the opportunity to audition for various roles, ensuring that everyone finds their perfect fit in the cast. We will rehearse scenes, perfect our lines, and learn necessary skills to bring our chosen classic to life. Parents and students are required to provide their own costume as well as helping out with props and sets.

Class Description:

Improv is about developing quick thinking skills in a fun imagination game filled way. We can all agree that there are times in our life we wished we reacted quicker or in a better way to a situation that took us by surprise. In improv we can practice those quick reactions in a safe fun space, and take those skills out into the world. If you are wanting to pursue performing arts or go into engineering, improv is for everyone. We use improv in many aspects of life. Someone asks you a question you were not anticipating, the plans that were made start falling apart, you are trapped with only doublemint gum, duct tape, paper clips, and shoe strings and have to escape! Ok that last one is for MacGyver. If you don’t know who MacGyver is, ask your parents.

Improv

Class Description:

Students will focus on beginner and intermediate dance skills for ballet & jazz. Class will begin with a stretch & cardio warm up, then move into ballet barre/center work, then transition to across the floor. Class will finish with learning choreography, and sometimes a fun movement game like freeze dance. Students will participate in two recitals, one Christmas and one Spring (dates TBD).

This class will offer a fun and engaging way to start learning Spanish! We will use songs, games, and activities to learn and practice the language. During the year, students will also enjoy learning a few things about different Spanish speaking cultures.

Beginner Spanish

Class Description:

In this class, students learn the Bible through scripture memory, songs, games and activities while using the classical model of teaching! In the elementary class, we will build Biblical knowledge through memorization with active, visual, and audio elements like music, card games, timeline posters, and maps. We will also discuss five big questions about each portion of scripture being taught: “Who?,” “What?,” “When?,” “Where?,” and “Why?” As students are asked each big question about the subject matter, they will learn to answer each one with a specific, concise, and verbatim answer. Bible Quest is a rich study of God’s word and will help your student hide the Word of God in their hearts for a lifetime! Parents and students will need to commit 15-20 minutes 3-4 times a week outside of class time to work on memorization and study the concepts we are working on in class.

Class Description:

Physical education sets the foundation for a lifestyle that encourages physical fitness, healthy living, and physical activity of all types. A body in motion-stays in motion. Our focus will be on developing motor skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and staying active through sports and other FUN activities.

Class Description:

*This class will run all year long focusing on Basketball Skills and Drills. This will serve as an Elementary Basketball Practice during the Basketball Season months of January and February. We would like each student in the class to participate in Elementary Basketball Games during these months to put their learned skills to use!

Dribble, pass, shoot—it's time to hit the court! This engaging and high-energy basketball class is designed for elementary-aged kids who are ready to learn the fundamentals of the game in a fun and supportive environment. Through skill-building drills, interactive games, and teamwork exercises, students will develop coordination, confidence, and sportsmanship while improving their basketball skills. Whether they're beginners or already love the game, this class will help them strengthen their techniques and foster a love for basketball. Lace up those sneakers and let's play!

This class focuses on fun through learning a skill and being proud that the student has created something from a piece of fabric and thread. I encourage creativity over preciseness sew that the student will gain a feeling of accomplishment for this art. This class is for the beginner, intermediate and advanced sewer who wants to learn about how a sewing machine works while creating several projects.

Class Description:

Get ready to launch into hyperdrive at Time Lab Science and Crafts where we’ll discover Jesus from eternity past to eternity future! We’ll have a blast uncovering the truth about him through His Word! You won’t want to miss a nanosecond of the fun. This class includes Science crafts and experiments to go along with each lesson.

This introduction to economics for elementary students will combine the curriculum from Tuttle Twins in the fall semester and Junior Achievement for the spring semester. The following describes each curriculum to be used in class: The Tuttle Twins series conveys the principles of freedom to your kids in a fun way. Each video in this series (following the same principles of the book series) focuses on a different aspect of the principles of a free society: free markets, competition, individual rights, the non-aggression principle, personal responsibility, protectionism, and a variety of other issues—all boiled down to core concepts that children of different ages can easily grasp. JA BizTown combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town. This popular learning experience allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. Students are able to connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world. JA BizTown is recommended for grades 4–6. The experience day will be a 4–5 hour visit to a hands-on simulated community. JA Learning Experiences support national and state standards in reading, mathematics, social studies, and work and career readiness.

Class Description:

Join me for a Reading Journey this year! We will read some short stories, fun poetry, and 4-5 novels from different genres. Many of the novels will be classics and/or Newbery Medal winners. We will read at least 1 book that has a movie so we can watch the movie together. We will also have a published author come speak to our class!

During class, we will discuss literary elements and devices, play literary games to earn prizes, and have engaging class discussions about that week’s reading.

Homework will include reading from the assigned book. Optional: The parent can choose to have their child complete a worksheet packet for each book that will be graded by the tutor.

Grades are based on completing each book, participating in class discussion, and the optional worksheets to deepen understanding of the novel.

If your child is taking other classes at Aspire that includes reading novels, this class is very doable and will even enhance their comprehension of other literary works. With each novel, we thoroughly cover different literary elements and devices. This will enhance their comprehension, expand critical thinking, and help them connect more deeply with the novel. All of these skills will be helpful for other classes your child takes this year and in the years to come.

Is your 3rd - 5th grader a reluctant reader? Give me a chance to help turn that around! We will be reading novels, short stories, and poetry from different genres to appeal to different reading interests. Discussion time during class will feel similar to a book club. We will read books that boys and girls both enjoy. An audiobook version is perfectly fine with me if your child would benefit from listening to the book. There will be a lot to love about this class and our time together!
