Aspire Academy is a blended model that offers weekly and biweekly academic and core elective Homeschool Classes for families that choose to school their children at home. IMG_1367 IMG_1383 52861880_2022465954468622_49716011639808 IMG_1367 1/19 Aspire Academy is... Core Academic Classes Offering core classes for K-12th that can be added to any school transcript. Core Elective Classes Offering a wide variety of Electives to fill all interests in an affordable way. Support for Families Our Tutors teach the curriculum & you do the work at home. We help fill the gaps in a meaningful way. Aspire Academy is Tulsa’s full-service homeschooling academic support campus. We are a not-for-profit (501c3) created to come alongside and meet the academic needs of homeschooling families by offering a’la’carte/drop off classes on Mondays and Wednesdays. We are not a government-funded/public school, private school, or part-time private school and as such, we are not accredited by any state or educational agency, nor do we desire to be. As an organization, we believe and support that your home is the child’s primary school and that by electing to home school, parents assume the role of primary teacher. Families have the constitutionally protected right to customize their student’s education based on individual interests, learning styles, learning disabilities, passions, specific needs and personality, and to incorporate the family’s personal values and beliefs into their daily teaching however they see fit. We do not view all children the same, expect all children to advance or master concepts at the same pace, or at the same age, or put students into a one size fits all box – this is the beauty and basic foundation of homeschooling. We understand and support that each family selects the subjects their child will learn, but also encourage college bound students to follow Oklahoma graduation guidelines and standards when selecting core classes and electives during their high school years if they desire to attend college. Our Academy Program is designed to encourage and support by blending the best aspects of homeschool with the social and engaging environment of an in-person classroom. Parents work together in partnership with our professional in-person tutors. We provide support for parents as they teach and reinforce the content for each subject at home. Our parents have a significant responsibility and accountability to ensure at-home work is completed and students comprehend what they’re learning on home days. Aspire Academy supplements the home education journey by offering a multitude of both academic and enrichment classes. Our academic classes provide students with instruction, labs, tests, and class work, as well as daily homework. Enrichment and elective classes provide a teaching atmosphere in class, but often do not require heavy homework assignments. Students may participate in one class or may enroll in several, depending on their current needs. In addition to our classes, many of our tutors offer one-on-one private tutoring that can be purchased directly through them. Learn More Little Roots Daycare Our 0-3 year old classes spend a fun-filled day of learning and play. Student Social Support We have a thriving student community at ASPIRE. Our family tree is steeped in fellowship and creating life long friendships! Our student tree groups gather by age range so they can get to know each other in meaningful ways. Educational Extras As homeschoolers, we know that education doesn't just happen in a classroom! We learn in all settings! For that reason, Aspire has many options for those extra educational experiences! These are available to students across all campuses, or students that don't attend a campus at all! Academic Fairs - Science Fair, Living Wax Museum, Book Fairs, Field Trips, Graduation, etc College & Career Aspire College and Career aren't just for students, it's for parents too! Our Career Center will be for students and parents. We will be offering resume writing and interviewing classes. We plan to partner with solid work from home opportunities and local businesses who are willing to create flexible schedules for homeschooling parents and students. Aspiring Hands Aspire has always served the community around us in many ways, but now we are taking it a step further. We will have opportunities for families and students to be a part of a formal Community Service program. Families can draw closer through serving others together. Students can move outside of themselves in an effort to serve others, all the while banking Community Service hours for their resumes and college applications. Aspire Clubs Our Clubs are the fun extras where plenty of social activity, along with learning happens. It's for the quirky, the ones with specific interests, the ones that are looking for friends who like the same things they do. - One Room Schoolhouse | Aspire Academy
4th-grade information One Room Schoolhouse (1st - 4th Grade ) 1st through 4th Grade - One Room Schoolhouse One Room Schoolhouse I’m so excited to welcome your kids and family into our classroom! We’ll be learning together, while each child follows their own weekly lesson plan. This works great for siblings as some of the lessons will be the same. One of the wonderful things about a multi-age class is how it naturally builds confidence, teamwork, and lowers stress. I loved this style of teaching with my own kids. Our class focuses on learning through play, bringing nature inside the classroom, exploring, experiments and hands-on activities. We’ll have dramatic play centers that change throughout the year, and arts and crafts will be part of many lessons. I love teaching this way because kids never get bored but while still having a daily routine. I truly believe kids need to play and move so we do several short lessons and several play short times every day. My hope is that every child looks forward to coming to class and develops a lifelong love of learning. Math - We use Abeka Math, a traditional, spiral curriculum that introduces concepts simply and builds on them each year, with plenty of review to help kids really understand. Aspire Academy uses this program, so it also makes transitions easier if needed. Most weeks, we’ll do lessons in class and workbook practice at home. I also include math games and activities to keep it fun and engaging. The link to order the right math book for your child will be provided. Language Arts and Reading - In class, we use Language Lessons for Today. These are short, interactive lessons covering oral and written composition, picture study, poetry memorization, copywork, dictation, literature, narration, and dictionary skills. This curriculum is great for me to use in a group for the entire class. We also use Masterbooks’ Language Lessons for a Living Education, which blends stories, poems, Scripture, copywork, narration, and hands-on activities to help kids build strong reading, writing, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and handwriting skills. After researching many programs, this felt like the best fit for our class. The link to order will be provided. Reading Books will be chosen based on each child’s level and interests. We have a wide variety of genres, especially for older kids. I will encourage a variety or books this year for them to pick from to read. Upper levels will have assignments to build comprehension, while younger ones will focus on phonics and foundational reading skills. My goal is to help every child grow in confidence and develop a love of reading. We will also be reading chapter books in class I love this time and so do they. Their brains relax and they use their imagination as they listen to the story. All needed books and worksheets will be provided. History & Science - This is where the fun really begins! I use a variety of curriculums for history and science, we will be learning together. I loved teaching my own kids this way because it simplified things while making the learning creative and hands-on. Don’t worry—if your child takes this class again, the content will always be different. As there is so much we can cover. History won’t be boring here! We’ll become actors, artists, builders, and explorers. We’ll do cooking projects and hear amazing stories and biographies. We cover a wide range of topics—from Native Americans, explorers, and Pilgrims to American wars, government, holidays, national parks, geography, and more. Science is a favorite because kids are naturally curious and always asking “why?” Together, we’ll explore life science (plants, animals, the human body), earth and space science (weather, seasons, planets, natural disasters), and physical science (matter, energy, machines, motion). All history and science materials are included in the supply fee, and I’ll send home project ideas and worksheets for days you learn at home. Handwriting- Handwriting Without Tears this will be optional and done at home but can be included in your daily lessons for home days. Typically, kids complete one book per year. Links for ordering will be provided. I’m looking forward to another wonderful school year and can’t wait to get started! As always, feel free to reach out to me on the BAND app with any questions—I’m happy to chat and help however I can. I’m excited to work alongside your family to make this a fun and successful year! —Amy Mullet Class Offered Both Days Teacher:Amy Mullet To download the PDF Schedule of CORE & ELECTIVE CLASSES please click this link: Core Classes Elementary core classes are 2-day classes. I was a public school teacher for 10 years before starting our homeschool journey. I love teaching, and specifically watching kids learn to read. I have been married for 19 years and we have 3 children that also attend Aspire, Gabby 16, Jay 11, and Gwen 8. Katie Acuna Hi! My name is Amber Andrews, and I am teaching the Montessori Class at Aspire Academy this coming up school year. I grew up in Rowlett TX, and graduated from Rowlett High School in 2001. In 2003, I was an assistant teacher at a Montessori school in Frisco, TX and taught ages 3-6. After one year of assisting, I was offered a scholarship to take the training to become AMS certified, and received my American Montessori Society certification in 2004. I love teaching, and creating new lessons. I married my wonderful husband James in 2007, and we were blessed with our first little girl, Autumn in 2013, and our second little girl, Skylar in 2017. Holly Andrews Molly is joining the Claritas Classical team this year as the Fourth Grade Tutor. She is looking forward to combining her love of math and Latin into the classical program. She has taught for 19 years, and while most of her experience is in the dance studio, she is excited to be able to develop deeper relationships and support her students more with having an elementary core block. Molly began dancing at age 7, and hasn’t stopped since! She began teaching while in high school, and has since taught in studios in PA, MD, TX and now Oklahoma. While here, she also found a passion for coaching Pom. Her favorite style of dance is jazz. Molly’s favorite thing about teaching is when it all “clicks”, and seeing the students joy when they master a new skill. You can find Molly hanging with her family (Jillian, Erin, Crew & husband Caleb) or watching her students perform, especially at Blazer Home Games. Molly is thrilled to lead and grow the Aspire Dance & Pom program, having almost tripled the program last year. Through God’s great goodness and grace, our family found Aspire and joined this wonderful community in August 2022. To say that Aspire has changed our lives for the better in a deep and profound way is an understatement. Starting Day 1, I put my energy, excitement, and heart into all things Aspire. I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in a number of groups, teach at Discovery, substitute teach for many teachers at Academy, and beginning the 2024/2025 school year, I had the great joy of teaching my own classes at Academy. I’ve been in some form of education my whole life. The setting has changed over the years and has included teaching pre-k/kindergarten curriculum to children as a nanny in college, leading small groups with elementary kids in church, being a lead educator and speaker at a monthly business women’s networking group that I launched with a team, educating my health insurance clients and life insurance clients regarding their options for a great path forward, along with training insurance agents in product knowledge, sales, leadership, and agency development at our family’s local insurance agency. Some of the most rewarding times in my life have always been working with children, whether it was when I was babysitting as a teenager and young adult, or leading small groups at church or having a positive impact on the friends of my kids. If I have the privilege to teach your child, I can promise you that he or she will feel loved, valued, have fun, and learn a lot. I give my all each class day and make sure your monetary investment in your child’s education is maximized. Here’s to a great year! I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood from John Brown University in 1994. Over the past 30 years, I have had a variety of opportunities to teach a wide range of ages and subjects from 2 year olds through 12th graders as a preschool teacher, a Classical Conversations Foundations and Essentials tutor and Challenge director, and a volunteer in several homeschooling co-ops. Outside of the classroom, I enjoying spending time with my family, reading good literature, having coffee with friends, and being a grandma to 5 adorable, sweet granddaughters! My husband, Daniel, and I have been married for 18 years and we have 3 girls. This is our 2nd year at Aspire, but we have been homeschooling for several years. The Spanish language has been a part of my life since I was in grade school. I graduated from Metro Christian Academy here in Tulsa, and my sophomore year at OU I spent studying abroad in Lima so I could fully grasp the language and culture of Peru. During these years in Lima, Daniel and I met and were married. We moved to Tulsa and were here 10 years before we returned to Lima with a church planting team. For 8 years we lived in Lima working with and pastoring the church in our neighborhood. In June of 2024, we returned to Tulsa to live. In Tulsa, over the years, I have had different interpreting/translation jobs, we have always spoken Spanish at home, and currently are part of a Spanish speaking church congregation. In Lima, I private tutored, taught as a teacher's aide and sub in an English immersion school, and was part of the worship team and children's and women's ministry team in our neighborhood church. I'm excited to be able to share Spanish and a little about the Peruvian and South American culture with my students this year! After college, I taught all subjects for 3rd grade my first year in education and then I taught 2nd grade English Language Arts in Tulsa Public Schools. Later that year, I opened a small business making custom 3D sculpted items and sewn items to help with income while I stayed home with Alexandria and welcomed our son, Manasseh, into our family in 2023. I love being a stay at home mom as I am able to cook for my family, homeschool my children, and find creative ways to help bring income in for my family from home. Kameron Smith My name is Sue Stenberg, and this will be my 4th year teaching at Aspire. I am a “retired” homeschool mom – we taught 4 of our 5 children for 15 years, graduating all of them from our school, Anderslokken Christian Academy, between 2000-2010. I have also homeschooled two of my grandchildren for three years. Some folks might know me from BiblioMania – I took it over from the founder in 1998. I attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa and majored in instrumental music education. I completed my Bachelor of Music Education in 1979, and taught music in Iowa for several years before we moved to Ohio. I have taught in Sunday School in our churches from 1980 on until just a few years ago – mostly in newborn to 5 years old. From 1984 on, I was a fulltime mom, raising our 5 children. We moved to Tulsa in 1987. In 1995, our eldest daughter requested that we homeschool her, our second daughter added to that request, and that was the beginning of our homeschool journey. Over the years, I have found that I LOVE teaching history, government, worldviews, and Bible. I have taught citizenship classes in Boy Scouts, and have served as a merit badge counselor, merit badge coordinator, and secretary in multiple Boy Scout troops in the area. My husband and I have also played our instruments (trumpet & French horn for Andy, flute and piccolo for me) in every church we have attended – including Eastwood Baptist – since 1979. When there is a bit of spare time, I love to do genealogy, read, sew, knit, crochet, and do embroidery. My favorite is Norwegian Hardanger, but I love all forms of needlework. Sue Stenberg I am married with two children, and we all live on a farm in Claremore. I am a lifelong student and have taught various subjects from a young age. I Taught my own martial arts class when I was 15 years of age. I have been a student of multiple styles in the martial arts over the years. I hold advanced rank in several styles. I have studied with many excellent instructors and teachers. I try to pass on this honorable tradition with my own students. I am an Oklahoma native, from the Claremore area. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree for graphic design in 99 from NSU. I worked as a artist in multiple disciplines. Ceramics, metals, plastics, blown glass, wood, and mixed mediums. I have had many occupations and apprenticeships over the years. I have worked as a teacher, museum preparator, welder, carpenter, graphic designer, glass blower, and many other things I just wanted to learn to do. I try to bring all these experiences to the students I work with and let them know that all skills are valuable, and many are parallel. We never know what adventure will be waiting for us when we set our feet on the path to education! My goal is to bless the young people with patience and guidance I was so graciously and lovingly provided. Andrew Storie Hi, I’m Meg Sutton! In my (rare) free time, I enjoy foraging in nature, reading, learning about all things health, watching movies, exploring different cultures, trying foods from around the world, and going on adventures with my family. Anytime I can be around family and friends, I am there—I’m always up for making memories! Megan Sutton My name is Michael Sutton. I have lived in Oklahoma all of my life. I graduated from Glenpool High School and received my Bachelor’s in Art for Journalism from Oklahoma State University. In my distant past I worked at Ackerman McQueen in their commercial production department where we produced commercials for Six Flags, LeapFrog educational toys, and Oklahoma Tourism. Later I transitioned to Energy News Live, a branded internet new broadcast focused on energy news, and stock market information. Later I was employed at Winner Communications, where I worked closely with non-traditional sports (soccer, bowling, horse racing, rodeo/ bull riding, outdoor programming) on the ESPN family of networks. Currently I am the replay operator for Lucas Oil Racing Television, covering ARCA, Late Model Dirt, ASCS, and POWERi open wheel sprint race cars. I run camera and scorebug for home Oklahoma State University television sports broadcasts. In my free time, I enjoy reading, collecting comic books, photography/ videography, and road trips with my wife and 3 children. I am also and avid podcast listener, and have attempted production of a Twilight Zone, and Golden Girls recap show with my nine-year-old daughter, which after only 1 episode, met rave reviews. We are currently on hiatus due to my cohost’s contract negotiations. Michael Sutton My name is Linda Thornhill. I love being an educator and interacting with the students. We were blessed to be stationed in Italy for a few years while in the Army and had the opportunity to travel all around Europe and parts of Africa. When not at school, I am very active at church, particularly with the youth group. My family and I love to be outdoors and spending time together camping. My hobbies include DIY home projects, reading, crocheting, and weightlifting. This is my ninth year homeschooling my three children, and we just finished our second year at Aspire.
