Meet Our Tutor Faculty Aspire Academy has been blessed with Tutors who are passionate about partnering with our families and helping to provide the individual needs each family has. While they are professionals with a plethora of knowledge in their fields, at Aspire Academy YOU are still the official Teacher and Record Keeper of your family. Our staff works to encourage, equip, and support each family and their unique needs. We are excited to be a part of your team! ~ click HERE to meet our Volunteer Staff and Admin ~ I am excited to begin my 4th year teaching at Aspire. I was a public school teacher for 10 years before starting our homeschool journey. I love teaching, and specifically watching kids learn to read. I have been married for 19 years and we have 3 children that also attend Aspire, Gabby 16, Jay 11, and Gwen 8. Katie Acuna Hi! My name is Amber Andrews, and I am teaching the Montessori Class at Aspire Academy this coming up school year. I grew up in Rowlett TX, and graduated from Rowlett High School in 2001. In 2003, I was an assistant teacher at a Montessori school in Frisco, TX and taught ages 3-6. After one year of assisting, I was offered a scholarship to take the training to become AMS certified, and received my American Montessori Society certification in 2004. I love teaching, and creating new lessons. I married my wonderful husband James in 2007, and we were blessed with our first little girl, Autumn in 2013, and our second little girl, Skylar in 2017. We enjoy spending time together, visiting new places and spending time with family. Amber Andrews Holly Andrews has been homeschooling since 2006 and wears many hats - wife, mother, mentor, and faithful co-laborer in ministry. She has been married to Brad since 1999 and together they have raised a vibrant family of nine children and gained two sons-in-law along the way: Cooper; Margo and her husband Gabe; Sloan and her husband Will; Everett; Blythe; Owen; Paige; Asher; and Reese. Originally from Versailles, Missouri, Holly is a 2000 graduate of Missouri Baptist University, where she earned a B.A. in Communications. In 2010, she and Brad moved to Tulsa from St. Louis to plant Mercyview, following a three-year church planting internship. Holly brings wisdom forged in the depths of real-life shaped by years of mothering, homeschooling, and helping establish a local church from the ground up. Her life reflects a deep commitment to Christ, the church, and the high calling of raising the next generation in truth and grace. Holly Andrews Molly is joining the Claritas Classical team this year as the Fourth Grade Tutor. She is looking forward to combining her love of math and Latin into the classical program. She has taught for 19 years, and while most of her experience is in the dance studio, she is excited to be able to develop deeper relationships and support her students more with having an elementary core block. Molly began dancing at age 7, and hasn’t stopped since! She began teaching while in high school, and has since taught in studios in PA, MD, TX and now Oklahoma. While here, she also found a passion for coaching Pom. Her favorite style of dance is jazz. Molly’s favorite thing about teaching is when it all “clicks”, and seeing the students joy when they master a new skill. You can find Molly hanging with her family (Jillian, Erin, Crew & husband Caleb) or watching her students perform, especially at Blazer Home Games. Molly is thrilled to lead and grow the Aspire Dance & Pom program, having almost tripled the program last year. Molly Boatright Brad is Pastor of Good News Church and has been serving in ministry since 1998. He has a MA in Ministry Leadership and BA in Church music. He has the heart of a teacher and a great passion for helping students grow in their faith. Brad is skilled in voice, guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard. Brad is married to Julie and together they have three children who have been in Aspire since 2016. Brad Brooks Hello! My name is Katie Calhoun. Through God’s great goodness and grace, our family found Aspire and joined this wonderful community in August 2022. To say that Aspire has changed our lives for the better in a deep and profound way is an understatement. Starting Day 1, I put my energy, excitement, and heart into all things Aspire. I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in a number of groups, teach at Discovery, substitute teach for many teachers at Academy, and beginning the 2024/2025 school year, I had the great joy of teaching my own classes at Academy. I’ve been in some form of education my whole life. The setting has changed over the years and has included teaching pre-k/kindergarten curriculum to children as a nanny in college, leading small groups with elementary kids in church, being a lead educator and speaker at a monthly business women’s networking group that I launched with a team, educating my health insurance clients and life insurance clients regarding their options for a great path forward, along with training insurance agents in product knowledge, sales, leadership, and agency development at our family’s local insurance agency. Some of the most rewarding times in my life have always been working with children, whether it was when I was babysitting as a teenager and young adult, or leading small groups at church or having a positive impact on the friends of my kids. If I have the privilege to teach your child, I can promise you that he or she will feel loved, valued, have fun, and learn a lot. I give my all each class day and make sure your monetary investment in your child’s education is maximized. Here’s to a great year! Katie Calhoun Sheldon Clark has been teaching in the Tulsa/Owasso area for 16 years. He began playing guitar at age 8 and has been playing with local bands, solo at weddings and special occasions, and for the last 14 years with an acoustic duo playing one to three shows a week. At the beginning of 2019 he also began work at The School of Rock were he is the lead show director. Sheldon Clark sheldonclark2001@yahoo.com (918)260-3244 Sheldon Clark Hello, my name is Julie Cox. I have been involved in homeschooling for 25 years. My husband and I have 4 children whom we homeschooled from K-12th grade. Our youngest child graduated in 2020, ending our 20 years of homeschooling; however, I have continued to stay involved in the homeschooling arena as I have a heart to help homeschooling moms/kids/families. I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood from John Brown University in 1994. Over the past 30 years, I have had a variety of opportunities to teach a wide range of ages and subjects from 2 year olds through 12th graders as a preschool teacher, a Classical Conversations Foundations and Essentials tutor and Challenge director, and a volunteer in several homeschooling co-ops. Outside of the classroom, I enjoying spending time with my family, reading good literature, having coffee with friends, and being a grandma to 5 adorable, sweet granddaughters! Julie Cox Born and raised in Tulsa, I graduated from Owasso High School before going on to Oklahoma State University where I earned a B.S. in Computer Science. From there, I was fortunate enough to receive a CyberCorps scholarship to attend Tulsa University where I earned an M.S. in Computer Science with a focus in Computer Security and Forensics. I previously taught courses in Information Technology at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology. Currently, I work in Application Security, Architecture and Governance in the energy sector while periodically teaching graduate level application development courses at Tulsa University. I love teaching students how to learn and challenging them to think critically. The “a-ha!” expression they get is priceless. I moonlight as I.T. technical support for friends, family, friends of family, family of friends, extended family, extended family of friends, et cetera, ad infinitum, ad astra. I.T. is defined as anything that uses electricity. My family consists of wife Nicole and three children: Micah, Joseph and Emmy. Don’t look, but they are probably sneaking up on you now. Fluffernutter the Tarantula is effectively mine. I only sometimes use the Oxford comma, just to keep people on their toes. My favorite colour is the one out of space. David Crandell Hola! My husband, Daniel, and I have been married for 18 years and we have 3 girls. This is our 2nd year at Aspire, but we have been homeschooling for several years. The Spanish language has been a part of my life since I was in grade school. I graduated from Metro Christian Academy here in Tulsa, and my sophomore year at OU I spent studying abroad in Lima so I could fully grasp the language and culture of Peru. During these years in Lima, Daniel and I met and were married. We moved to Tulsa and were here 10 years before we returned to Lima with a church planting team. For 8 years we lived in Lima working with and pastoring the church in our neighborhood. In June of 2024, we returned to Tulsa to live. In Tulsa, over the years, I have had different interpreting/translation jobs, we have always spoken Spanish at home, and currently are part of a Spanish speaking church congregation. In Lima, I private tutored, taught as a teacher's aide and sub in an English immersion school, and was part of the worship team and children's and women's ministry team in our neighborhood church. I'm excited to be able to share Spanish and a little about the Peruvian and South American culture with my students this year! After college, I taught all subjects for 3rd grade my first year in education and then I taught 2nd grade English Language Arts in Tulsa Public Schools. Later that year, I opened a small business making custom 3D sculpted items and sewn items to help with income while I stayed home with Alexandria and welcomed our son, Manasseh, into our family in 2023. I love being a stay at home mom as I am able to cook for my family, homeschool my children, and find creative ways to help bring income in for my family from home. I am excited to share my passion for sewing, cooking, baking, basic finances, and more this coming school year with students as they learn and grow. Rebecca Hing Bio Megan Hulson Hi! I am certified in Elementary Education from Northeastern State University and I have a masters in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma. I have always had a passion for teaching and working with kids. I was a public school teacher for four years before coming to Aspire. My husband Ty and I have been married five years and have a baby girl named Berkley. We have two fur babies, Minnie and Prada. We love going to the lake, golfing, camping, and spending time as a family. Samantha Martinez We arrived in Tulsa in 1980 and have been here ever since. I graduated from Kansas University and fell in love with being a teacher. I love teaching and helping children explore the world and find learning can be fun. I want them to see how important they are and that God’s good thoughts towards them are like the sand grains on a beach, to many to be numbered. We homeschooled our 4 children through high school. During those homeschool years I started and ran Tulsa Academic Co-op, a cooperative of over 200 students for k-12 grades. I am a founding board member of the NOAH Jaguars homeschool sports. I have substituted as public-school teacher and had a long-term para position in special education and worked as a senior caregiver. I currently partner with Go Global travel as a travel guide for homeschool students and their family. I also organize domestic travel for senior adults. Exploring life and the world through learning, teaching, and traveling are always fun. God has place me in a perfect place here at Aspire for me to serve you and your children as a third-grade core teacher. Candy Matheny Hi, I am Amy Mullet and I am so exited to be teaching at Aspire Academy this year. This is my families third year at Aspire but our 8th year to homeschool. We love the freedom that we have gained through homeschooling and the wonderful friendships we have found at Aspire. I grew up in Ft.Gibson, OK but have called the Owasso area home for the last 10 years. I have 3 kids who are 17, 13 and 12 and attend Aspire. They are all involved in sports and while it keeps me busy I absolutely love it. I enjoy being outside as much as I can in the summer with lots of pool days, hiking in the fall and movie nights in the winter. We travel as much as we can and love to explore new places. We love our pets and have cats, dogs and even a snake. We attend Collinsville Baptist Tabernacle where my kids are now all in youth group! I have taught classes at our previous co-op and have experience with all ages. I love to help kids learn by being creative. While I love books and reading I think we can also teach hands on through art, games, discussion, culinary, and experiments. So while we will have bookwork we will also have lots of other ways we are leaning all year depending on the age and class. I look forward to a wonderful school year and can’t wait to meet your kids! Amy Mullet My name is Sarah Mullins. Broken Arrow has been my hometown my entire life. I graduated from Oral Roberts University with elementary and early childhood certifications. The past 14 years, I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades at Broken Arrow Public Schools. My husband Kyle and I have a son, Preston, and a German Shepherd/Lab mix named Kistler. Sarah Mullins Roger Nimmo taught High School Science for 21 years. He taught AP Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, Earth Science, General Science, and Anatomy/Physiology. He has a passion for this topic and has spent about 4,000 hours studying the evidence for and against the Theory of Evolution. Mr. Nimmo believes everyone who takes this class will increase their faith in God and His Word. The knowledge they gain will keep them from the unbelief they might pick up from the secular education they receive from the world. Roger Nimmo Rachel Pogue is a native Tulsan who earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Oral Roberts University. Her career in both private and public education spans two decades. She has taught a variety of students, ranging from elementary to both junior high and high school. She has also taught adult English language learners and fellow professional educators. Rachel has held administrative roles as a district-level trainer and elementary assistant principal. She has spent the last few years as the primary educator for her family and is delighted to expand her homeschool offerings to other families as an Aspire tutor! Rachel has a passion for Jesus and for educating the whole person in spirit, mind, and body. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs chapter one encourages us in this: “Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance… the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” These principles serve as the foundation for Rachel’s approach to tutoring – she’s excited to work with your students! Rachel Pogue Jennifer's Bio Jennifer Poteet Guten Tag! My name is Frau Ulrike, and I'm thrilled to join Aspire as the German Teacher this coming school year. In the last twenty years, I founded/directed a homeschooling support organization in Pennsylvania, recently retired as a paraprofessional at Jenks Public Schools, provide private tutoring, and am the Kinderdeutsch teacher at the German-American Society in Tulsa. Ulrike Ralston Hello! I will begin my 3rd year at Aspire Academy and this year I will be teaching Beginner Spanish. I was raised in Northern New Mexico, where my mother's parents were born and raised. This has given me a Spanish background and allowed me to take Spanish classes all through school. I have experience with all levels of government! I worked for the City of Tulsa for 15 years, 13 of which were as a Tulsa Police Officer. Amy Shipman Michigan born Tulsa raised. My greatest gratitude is for my family. My wife Ali, son Timothy, and daughter Tamzin. Being a parent has been the most rewarding and transformative adventure. I was in theater and performing arts from early elementary through high school. Younger Kameron would be surprised by this, but I am very thankful to my mother for forcing me in Theater Arts summer programs instead of playing video games all summer. The performing arts have helped me in every aspect of my life. It helps give you quick thinking, confidence, team work, and a myriad of other life skills. Kameron Smith My name is Sue Stenberg, and this will be my 4th year teaching at Aspire. I am a “retired” homeschool mom – we taught 4 of our 5 children for 15 years, graduating all of them from our school, Anderslokken Christian Academy, between 2000-2010. I have also homeschooled two of my grandchildren for three years. Some folks might know me from BiblioMania – I took it over from the founder in 1998. I attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa and majored in instrumental music education. I completed my Bachelor of Music Education in 1979, and taught music in Iowa for several years before we moved to Ohio. I have taught in Sunday School in our churches from 1980 on until just a few years ago – mostly in newborn to 5 years old. From 1984 on, I was a fulltime mom, raising our 5 children. We moved to Tulsa in 1987. In 1995, our eldest daughter requested that we homeschool her, our second daughter added to that request, and that was the beginning of our homeschool journey. Over the years, I have found that I LOVE teaching history, government, worldviews, and Bible. I have taught citizenship classes in Boy Scouts, and have served as a merit badge counselor, merit badge coordinator, and secretary in multiple Boy Scout troops in the area. My husband and I have also played our instruments (trumpet & French horn for Andy, flute and piccolo for me) in every church we have attended – including Eastwood Baptist – since 1979. When there is a bit of spare time, I love to do genealogy, read, sew, knit, crochet, and do embroidery. My favorite is Norwegian Hardanger, but I love all forms of needlework. Sue Stenberg I am married with two children, and we all live on a farm in Claremore. I am a lifelong student and have taught various subjects from a young age. I Taught my own martial arts class when I was 15 years of age. I have been a student of multiple styles in the martial arts over the years. I hold advanced rank in several styles. I have studied with many excellent instructors and teachers. I try to pass on this honorable tradition with my own students. I am an Oklahoma native, from the Claremore area. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree for graphic design in 99 from NSU. I worked as a artist in multiple disciplines. Ceramics, metals, plastics, blown glass, wood, and mixed mediums. I have had many occupations and apprenticeships over the years. I have worked as a teacher, museum preparator, welder, carpenter, graphic designer, glass blower, and many other things I just wanted to learn to do. I try to bring all these experiences to the students I work with and let them know that all skills are valuable, and many are parallel. We never know what adventure will be waiting for us when we set our feet on the path to education! My goal is to bless the young people with patience and guidance I was so graciously and lovingly provided. Andrew Storie Hi, I’m Meg Sutton! Born and raised in Oklahoma, I’ve always had a passion for learning, adventure, and holistic health. I earned my degree in Marketing with a minor in Spanish from the University of Oklahoma and even spent six months studying abroad in Spain—where I fell in love with the culture, language, and, of course, the food! I met my husband, Michael, at a young age and have been very fortunate to share many years of fun and laughter with him. After marrying and raising three talented kiddos, I followed my passion for natural wellness and became certified in Natural Health with naturopathic training. Now, I work at MeehanMD/MINDSETkids, a functional medicine clinic, specializing in holistic care for kids and adults, as well as cancer care. I also run my own natural health product business, Green Bee Health, where I provide non-toxic, healing remedies to support overall wellness. When I was younger, I loved playing sports, and as my kids came along, I shifted that passion into coaching soccer, where I got to encourage and teach kids both on and off the field. In my (rare) free time, I enjoy foraging in nature, reading, learning about all things health, watching movies, exploring different cultures, trying foods from around the world, and going on adventures with my family. Anytime I can be around family and friends, I am there—I’m always up for making memories! Megan Sutton My name is Michael Sutton. I have lived in Oklahoma all of my life. Currently I am the replay operator for Lucas Oil Racing Television, covering ARCA, Late Model Dirt, ASCS, and POWERi open wheel sprint race cars. I run camera and scorebug for home Oklahoma State University television sports broadcasts. Aspire also offers multiple fundraising opportunities throughout the year, the benefits of which go STRAIGHT towards your tuition fees! Aspire Academy FAQ Class Dates Academy meets 13 weeks per semester, see calendar for specific dates & class descriptions for days/hours offered. Class & Curriculum Info Fees are here. Academy costs are less than similar programs offered in the Tulsa area, and we hope to keep it that way! Volunteer hours are encouraged but not required, a discount is offered for regular service Our model is unique. Our Tutors teach 1-2 days per week (depending on age range and curriculum needs). Then they assign homework based on the materials they've taught for the remainder of the week. Parents may be needed to supervise homework, and answer basic questions. We request that should you register for classes, you commit to the full year on the classes you have chosen. This helps keep our fiscal budget intact. Should you decide not to continue mid-year you may still incur the second-semester fees. Tutors will be providing a syllabus, grading work, and issuing a class grade at the end of the year. All curriculum choices can be seen in the class descriptions for each class. We do not follow the typical age requirements on classes. Being a Homeschool Support we allow YOU, the parent, to decide where your child's needs are. If you choose a 9th-grade math class, and a 7th grade English class for the same child, THAT'S OK! We know everyone works on different levels and we choose to let them succeed where you think is appropriate for their level. Aspire does have book rental fees that are charged for most books that Aspire will purchase and reuse. This will save families a considerable amount on curriculum costs and allow Aspire to invest in a solid curriculum for the Academy Program. Some classes may have supply fees. This will cover the materials used in class. Some teachers may opt to post a supply list, then you are responsible for purchasing those supplies separately. Study Hall is not considered an official "class". There are no materials taught and no expectations thus the lower fee. Study Hall does not apply for discounts. Students must have something to keep them occupied throughout the duration of their study hall, we will not provide any busy options. Social study hall students will not be provided entertainment, and must also have something to keep them occupied as well. Being in social study hall is not PE or an excuse to be disruptive. Social study hall is a privilege and any students that are not mature enough to behave and follow the rules in this environment will be removed immediately without warning. There are no devices or laptops allowed in social study hall, violators will lose their social study hall privileges. Our curriculum largely focuses on a Christian Worldview perspective. VIPs, Leadership, and Tutors all receive extra discounts. We operate on a $0 based budget, everything collected goes back into Aspire for the next year. This investment is why we keep growing and adding so many opportunities for students! Our classes have a 5 student minimum and a 10-20 student maximum based on the class. We have classes for Infant all the way to 12th grade. There are no minimum age requirements to attend so even if you utilize the mother's day out option only we welcome you to join! Aspire does accept EPIC Students, however, we are not an EPIC Vendor. If you choose to do both EPIC and Academy we recommend speaking with your teacher first to make sure the class you are taking can be counted in your curriculum with EPIC. Safety & Behavior Expectations To ensure your child’s safety, Academy is locked at all times when students are present in the building. We have one entrance/exit door that we utilize and a door attendant constantly monitoring anyone coming or going. We ask for Kinder and under parents to escort their child personally to the classroom and pick up their students from the classroom by 3:15. There will be a charge starting at 3:20 PM for late pickups. When you register as an Aspire family, every adult living in the household will be background checked as well as each of our volunteers, substitutes, and tutors at our campus. We have a Statement of Faith, Volunteer Guidelines, Student Guidelines, Dress Code, and Student Expectations that we ask you to sign, read, and explain to your students. Older students are asked to review and sign the expectations every year. Children are expected to behave and be respectful of their tutors and others during their class time. This ensures the best learning environment possible. We believe in giving "Grace upon Grace" so we attempt to handle all things in the most grace-filled way that we possibly can. Being thoughtful of others also means expecting and requiring the kiddos to do the same while modeling and teaching them how. If there is a behavior issue, your student will be given one warning and one chance to redirect in a class by the tutor. If the behavior continues, the tutor will send the student to the admin office for the remainder of the class period. Parents will need to contact the tutor to receive any work missed due to the child’s absence. If the offense is minor, Admin will address behavioral issues, correct and/or redirect, allowing the student to go to their next class hour. If the offense is major or needs parental attention, Admin will contact parents to pick up their students for the day. Tutors only have so much class time at Academy to cover an extensive amount of information so we cannot allow disruptions in the classroom to continue for the sake of time and for the respect of the other children's learning experience. We do have a medical incident form, and a behavioral incident forms online that we request you fill out if your child was hurt in any way, or if your child is having an issue with anyone at Academy. These forms are sent to our BARC committee, who are non-partisan parties that will handle any issues with grace, discretion, and understanding. This helps us keep each other accountable as well as documents any issues for future reference. These forms are also encouraged in order to keep gossip and verbal complaints to a minimum. Sick & Vacation Policy Our Sick Policy is being updated. We will update once approved by our Board of Directors. Tours & Open Houses We try to offer 1-2 Open Houses each year for families to tour our campus and ask questions. We strongly encourage you to attend one of these!
